Welcome to our "At Home" series! This time, we're sitting down with Kristin Lundeen, a young and vibrant interior design enthusiast living in Los Angeles. We're diving into the world of creative interior design with Kristin as she spills the beans on her inspirations, favorite trends, and all things design-related :)
Tell us about you!
My name is Kristin Lundeen and I live in sunny Los Angeles! I moved into a lovely 1920s Spanish style bungalow that has become my oasis. I have filled my home with modern mid-century thrifted finds and vintage European treasures passed down from my grandmother. This 600-square-foot-space is my home, as well as my office where I work full-time as a graphic designer. I’ve created a space to remain inspired and happy.
What made you want to share your love of interior design on TikTok?
My appreciation for interior and architectural design began when I was a young girl always flipping through my mom’s “junk mail” catalogs sent from Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel and other home décor brands. I loved looking at the different color and texture combinations, in beautifully curated spaces. When I found my current apartment, I didn’t have much furniture. I began documenting my decorating process and noticed others were interested in following along through the journey on TikTok.
Tell us about your creative process. Where do you find inspiration?
Since a large part of my day is spent on the computer designing for my job, whenever I get the chance to step away and look to my surroundings for beauty, I feel reinvigorated. I always keep my eyes open and take note of the small things I may come across in life that inspire me. And last, but not least I look to Pinterest and TikTok often for inspiration.
What’s one piece of advice you always go back to when it comes to your career?
Be proud of your work. Growing up, my parents frequently reminded me to always strive to put out my best work, no matter how small. How we do our work becomes a mirror of how we are inside.
What makes a space feel like home?
I’m still figuring this out but so far books, plants, keepsake items from family and friends. Anything uniquely, you!
As a creative, what’s your best tip for achieving a sense of balance in your home?
Mix old and new. Repurposed pieces of your home can help bring originality and beauty from the past. We live in a world where we have so many mass-produced things that look exactly the same. Instead, you can use thrift items or restore old ones. I do believe mixing old and new can be the best route when done intentionally.
What are some of your home essentials?
I love to cook and host guests, so my essentials are mostly kitchen related items. Some great serving platters, a Dutch oven, an assortment of glasses for drinks, a cozy dining table arrangement, and plenty of candles.
What are you looking forward to in the next year?
This year I’m excited to continue developing my personal interior design style, in addition completing some big graphic design projects. I started from a blank slate moving into a new apartment and have been having a lot of fun experimenting. I’m feeling like it’s going to be a busy but rewarding year ahead and I can’t wait!
